Brewers pitcher Chris Capuano has chosen to rehabilitate a torn ligament in his pitching elbow instead of undergoing a second Tommy John surgery. Milwaukee placed the left-hander on the DL Thursday.
Blue Jays third baseman Scott Rolen will miss four-to-six weeks after surgery on his right middle finger. Rolen suffered the fracture during a routine fielding drill.
Pitcher Kelvim Escobar suffered a setback during his shoulder recovery program and has been shut down indefinitely. The Angels aren't sure when Escobar could resume throwing.
Closer Brad Lidge will begin the 2008 season on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21. Tom Gordon will assume the closer duties for Philadelphia in his absence.
Andy Pettitte will not start the Yankees second game of the season due to back spasms. Mike Mussina will take his turn. Pettitte could be ready to start Game 3 of the regular season.
