The Royals took the field for the first time this season today.....and took a 6-1 loss from the Rangers. Starter John Bale gave up a run in the 2nd but, in probably the best news of the day, Luke Hochevar pitched 2 good innings. The same can't be said for Japanese import Yasuhiko Yabuta, who made his Royals debut and gave up 2 runs in the 8th.

Non-roster invitee Brian Lawrence got off on the wrong foot with 2 runs allowed in his 2 IP, and Ron Mahay gave up a longball to Texas catching prospect Taylor Teagarden. The offense got its only run on an RBI hit by Tony Pena Jr. Huber, Gordon and Butler had a hit each and Mike Stodolka scored the Royals' only run after pinch running in the 5th. Non-roster guy Damon Hollins had the only extra base hit for KC with a double.

Tomorrow gives Royals fans an intra-squad game before the spring schedule starts in earnest Friday versus the Padres.
